Philosophy

Hands On Care Providing; Healthy Balance ... Eliminating Compensation ... Enhancing Life

From the first time we fall — from a changing table, a rocking horse, the monkey bars — to the falls and injuries considered more severe suffered during sports activities or accidents — we begin to alter and continue to change our structural makeup. The body initially compensates for these insults, but when the structure gets too far out of balance, pain levels go up and we develop symptoms. The range of symptoms can be as varied as the individuals experiencing them. Osteopaths who specialize in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments (OMT) look for the underlying causes of these symptoms instead of just treating the symptoms themselves.

Osteopaths (D.O.s) are trained to consider the whole body and how it relates to other parts in the diagnostic as well as the treatment phase of care. Just because the head bone is connected to the neck bone doesn’t mean they are functioning well together. Osteopaths specializing in OMM are trained to diagnose and treat pain patterns not evident to others because of their unique knowledge of how the whole body works together. In the case of dysfunction, they know how to treat the dysfunction so the patient’s body is relieved of symptomatic pain and returns to functioning as a whole.

Osteopaths have been practicing “hands on” care for over 100 years. This approach applies not only to pain or injury, but also can hasten recovery from other symptoms by promoting blood flow through tissues. This modality can also be used to relieve the discomfort of musculoskeletal abnormality associated with a number of disorders, including asthma, sinus disorder, carpal tunnel, migraines and menstrual pain.

Conservative treatment can include Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments, medication, trigger point injections, traction, hot packs, Jones Techniques, prolotherapy (RIT), nutritional consultation, physical therapy and rehabilitation. All treatments are non-surgical, providing a viable, if not preferred method of pain management.
